Family Medicine Rural Health Clinic (“Family Medicine Clinic” or “FMC”) is the largest independent private practice in Lampasas and Coryell Counties, with 2 offices and 6 physicians, 2 physician assistants, and 3 nurse practitioners, providing over 60,000 outpatient visits per year to 30,000 individual patients. The practice is situated in the heart of beautiful Texas Hill Country, one hour northwest of Austin. FMC serves a population of 200,000 residents, including military families at Fort Hood, one of the largest military bases in the world and home to the US Army Third Armored Cavalry and First Cavalry Divisions.
The practice started in 1936 in the historic town of Lampasas, population 7,000. The Lampasas Office is a Rural Health Clinic with 5 family physicians, James Cain, MD, and Mark Lane, MD, FMC’s owners, who have worked for FMC since 1989 and 1998 respectively, and Robin Cain, MD, Morris Patteson, MD, and Georgia Hay, MD, and 2 midlevel providers, Amanda Allen, FNP and Kara Kehoe, PA. FMC plans to add 3 more providers in Lampasas during the next 24 months. Each provider cares for an average of 30 patients per day in the office Monday thru Friday 9 AM to 5 PM and every 5th Saturday, 9 AM to noon.
FMC’s second office is located in Copperas Cove (population 30,000), 15 minutes to the east of Lampasas on US Highway 190. Copperas Cove is also certified as a Rural Health Clinic. The Copperas Cove office is 14 years old and has 2 family physicians, David Go, MD, Subha Chikkala, MD, and, 3 midlevel providers- Bill Montgomery, PA, Rich Calkins, FNP, and Tracy Creamer, FNP. FMC plans to add 1 more provider in Copperas Cove during the next 24 months. Each provider cares for an average of 30 patients per day in the office Monday thru Friday 9 AM to 5 PM and every 4th Saturday, 9 AM to noon. ‘Cove’ providers have a 100% outpatient practice. The majority of Cove admissions are referred to the Metroplex Hospitalist Group at 180-bed Metroplex Hospital, 10 minutes east of Copperas Cove in Killeen. The Metroplex and Rollins Brook Hospitals are part of the Adventist Health System, a $1 billion non-profit company.
Both FMC’s offices have Quest laboratory drawing stations with STAT labs performed at Rollins Brook and Metroplex. FMC also offers x-ray, ultrasound and EKG services to its patients at each office.
In July 2014 FMC completed construction of its new 12,000 sq ft office on 187 PR 4060 on 190 East in Lampasas. This new office is designed for 9 providers.
FMC has also just initiated an in-office allergy testing/SCIT/SLIT program and a clinical research company, FMC Science. FMC is also planning several new primary care offices within the next 36 months.
